"Dearest Ian...if I were to have a painting of the quintessential Aussie, all 'round good bloke/farmer, it would have to be of you...in battered hat and accompanied by Mose and Diddy, your best dogs of our 20s and 30s...those heady days when we were so full of life and so carefree!
You lived hard, worked hard, loved hard and played even harder...I am so grateful that I was a part of that life...that I got to love you and be loved by you...to have been a part of your family.
Farewell 'Ole Cock'! I already miss you too much beloved friend and bestest cousin-in-law EVER!
ROSES darling, to you and the family...I'm so sorry your hearts are so sore and sad and that there's not a single thing I can do about it...you know how I feel and how much I love you...bless you all,
As ever, Lucy
(Lucy Cottle, Adelaide.)"

"Dear Rosemary and Family,
I am thinking of you and your family at this time. Many happy memories of Canoee in the old mulesing days at Pine Vale. Phil enjoyed Canoee's company during their problem solving discussions. There was always a good excuse to celebrate when the solutions were found.
Happy memories

"Dear Rose and family,

So sad to read of the loss of Canoee (Ian). He was a lovely man and I will never forget our trip to the Birdsville Races with only one (1) CD in the car. Gracelands by Paul Simon. We played it all the way there and back again, and I still think I could sing it word for word.
Lots of laughs had by us all.
Take care and thinking of you,
Kind regards,
