"Having worked with John for 18 years as a junior Anaesthetic Nurse through my Nursing career, from North Eastern to long mornings at Sportmed with Michael Hayes, he taught me a lot, we laughed a lot.....we argued a lot and I'll treasure our chat on the phone earlier this year, sending love to the family at this hard time,

"Kay and I offer our sincerest condolences. John was a great and true friend and colleague. Before I relocated to Darwin, John was my anaesthetist at Calvary each fortnight. We had many wonderful days with professionalism and fun. Great days.

"On behalf of the Adelaide University medical graduation year of 1970 I extend our deep sympathy to Etelka and family. Unfortunately the Covid restrictions prevent many of us attending the funeral service except by livestream. Personally I have known John well both socially and professionally as he anaesthetised my patients throughout both our careers. He was an excellent anaesthetist, and a great friend. His humour and friendship have enriched many lives.

Amongst his many qualities John had a great sense of responsibility towards the community, his professional body, and all those he worked with as well as his patients. He was the organizer of all the reunion events of our 1970 graduation year and in doing so engendered a great feeling of camaraderie amongst us. Sadly the Covid virus denied him the pleasure of officiating at the cancelled 50 year reunion this year.
We miss you, John"

"To Etelka, Andrew and Jamie
Please accept my sincere condolences with the passing of John. I met him when he was a registrar in ICU at the RAH nearly 50 years ago and we have been friends and colleagues ever since. I worked with John closely over the ensuing years in various private hospitals in Adelaide and his happy disposition and larger than life character made him a joy to work with. He was popular among the nursing staff because he always supported us and we knew he would always have our backs. I have very much valued his friendship over those years and look back on all the good times we had in the operating theatre.
My thoughts are very much with you all as you adjust to life without John right now.
He will be very much missed by so many of the nursing fraternity and especially by me.
Rest in peace my friend."

"I was saddened today to learn of the death om my dear friend, John Richards. As President of the ASA he served his fellow anaesthetists well and was admired for his resolve in presenting their case to both the AMA and Federal Health Department. We looked forward to seeing John and Etelka at the annual conference. His pleasant company will be sorely missed.

"My sincere condolences to Etelka and family.

I worked with John for many, many years and I will always be thankful for his unwavering support.

I was fortunate to have seen him quite recently and although retired he continued to display his passion for his profession.

Rest in Peace dear friend.
